KATHMANDU, MARCH 7

The first meeting of the now-reinstated House of Representatives (HoR) has begun on Sunday. Today's meeting was summoned in accordance with the Supreme Court's February 24 order to call the meeting of the Lower House within 13 days.

Earlier, on December 20, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had unilaterally decided to dissolve the HoR while also announcing general elections for April-May, 2021,

The decision was then swiftly approved by President Bidya Devi Bhandari putting their intentions into questioning and causing much political turbulence nationwide.

The matter was probed by the Supreme Court after multiple writ petitions were filed against the House dissolution The five-member Constitutional Bench of SC led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana had gave the verdict to reinstate the HoR, terming Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's move to dissolve the House unconstitutional.
