FM journos sit in protest

Kathmandu, September 1:

The HBC FM chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists and some members of the Republican Radio Workers’ Forum organised a sit-in at the main entrance to the FM station in Tinchule Bouddha from 8 am to 5 pm today.

According to FNJ’s HBC chapter vice-president, Bhim Thapa, the administration has not responded to them yet. Yesterday, they had organised a sit-in, demanding reinstatement of all the journalists and radio workers who were sacked through a notice. Thirty-seven of the 45 employees of the FM station were prevented from entering the office last Wednesday.

“If the management failed to address our demand by Sunday, the central committee of FNJ would intensify their agitation,” said Thapa. He also demanded that the management implement the recently promulgated Working Journalists Act.

The representatives of the Working Journalists’ Association, Human Rights and Peace Society and journalists from different media houses visited the station to express solidarity with the agitating radio workers of the FM.
