FNJ flays Maoist ways

Kathmandu, March 26:

The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the Maoist workers’ act of “threatening” the editor of Abhiyan, a daily being published from Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, and seeking the cancellation of the daily’s registration.

In a statement issued on Monday, the FNJ termed the act of Maoist workers ‘irresponsible’ at a time when the party was engaged in groundwork to join the government.

“There are legal ways to disagree with the article published in the media. The act is a direct attack on the free press,” it stated, demanding an investigation into the matter.

The journalists’ body also called on the government to ensure press freedom and the security of the editor.
