KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists has welcomed the Supreme Court’s interim order issued in the name of government to enforce the proportional advertising system.

The order issued by a bench headed by Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli on Sunday was in response to a writ petition filed by the FNJ and Press Council Nepal in the court, seeking an interim order for the government to implement the Proportional Advertising Directive-2069 BS.

The court order requires the immediate implementation of the Directive issued as per the decision of Council of Ministers stating that it would come into March 14, 2013. But, the directive is yet to be brought into practice.

In the press statement, the FNJ, an umbrella organisation of media persons, states that is believes that small media houses and those operated by working journalists should have a proportional access to government advertisements.

The FNJ has urged the government make no further delay to implement the Directive bearing in the aftermath of the court verdict.

Senior advocate Borna Bahadur Karki, advocates Nawaraj Thapaliya and Bhakta Ghimire pleaded on the writ on behalf of the Council and FNJ.
