Forest handed over to committee

KATHMANDU; The government today handed over the forest surrounding the Swoyambhunath Stupa to the management committee. The handover was made as per the forest act 2049. The 31.38 hectare of the forest that surrounds the holy Buddhist Stupa was handed over to the Swyambhu Management Conservation Committee as per their demand.

“The committee assured to take care of the forest and we handed the forest appreciating their demand,” said Braj Kihore Yadav, District Forest Officer Kathmandu.

Five forests in Kathmandu district have been handed over to the religious organisation as per their demand in the past and this is the sixth one, according to District Forest Office, Kathmandu. The minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Deepak Bohara handed over the forest to the committee amidst a programme. Addressing the programme, minister Bohara said, “I am confident that the management committee will take utmost care of the forest better than the government.”
