Former PM Nepal stresses on setting up public university
Kirtipur, March 25
CPN-UML senior leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal today stressed on establishing a separate university for public colleges across the country.
Inaugurating the 10th national general convention of Nepal Public Campus Association here today, Nepal said the establishment of a public university was essential to protect public investment in colleges. “A public university would play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of community colleges across the country,” he added.
He also assured the representatives from public colleges that he would do his best for the establishment of such varsity.
According to Ishwor Gautam, president at NPCA, the association has 471 public colleges as its members while around 100 campuses are in the process acquiring its membership. “Around 2,00,000 students are currently studying in public colleges across the country. All the districts in the country have public campuses with the exception of Manang district,” he said.
Gautam further said,“We are bearing 50 per cent of the TU’s academic responsibilities by establishing colleges even in remote areas of the country and providing quality education. The government, however, has not been paying attention towards establishing a public university.”
