KATHMANDU, MAY 28

Four former chief justices of the Supreme Court have said the recent dissolution of House of Representatives is against the Supreme Court's past verdict of reinstating the House.

In a joint statement issued Friday, former CJs Anup Raj Sharma, Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anup Raj Sharma, Sushila Karki and Kalyan Shrestha have said that PM Oli and President Bhandari's act of dissolving the House was an unconstitutional exercise.

The four justices stressed that the government's act of dissolution, at a time when their sole focus should've been on pandemic management, is against the spirit and values of the Apex Court's February 23 ruling to reinstate the House.

"Such repeated acts of unconstitutional exercises bring about a threat of ending the Constitution itself," they lamented.

Rayamajhi, Sharma, Karki and Shrestha had also issued a statement as the December 2020 House dissolution case was under trial at the SC, deeming it unconstitutional.
