Four major forces to table joint amendment proposal

KATHMANDU: The four major political forces have agreed to table an amendment proposal to review the draft constitution on the basis of consensus.

During a meeting held at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar on Saturday, leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic agreed to table the amendment proposal through political consensus.

After the meeting, CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the amendment proposal would be tabled for review on the basis of consensus among political parties.

Saying that discussions were underway regarding the amendment proposal that would be tabled at the Constituent Assembly from the political parties, leader Nepal expressed the belief that the next meeting of the four political parties scheduled today itself would finalise the issue.

Similarly, MJF-D Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar said that discussions were underway to take all issues of the constitution amendment in a package on the basis of consensus.

Stating that the new constitution writing process has reached the final phase after the 16-point pact, he said, "We would move ahead on the basis of consensus till the last point by addressing the demands of the agitating Madhesis and Tharus."

Likewise, Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak said that positive discussions were taking place among the top leaders for tabling the proposal on the basis of consensus.
