GEFONT men raise banner of revolt, join ANTUF

Lalitpur, July 1 :

About 250 workers affiliated to the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), a sister organisation of CPN-UML, have revolted and entered into the Maoist-affiliated All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF).

Vice-chairman of ANTUF, Badri Bajgain, today welcomed them amid a function organised at its contact office. Addressing a function, Bajgain appealed to all other workers to revolt against the “injustice.” He said the ANTUF would never discriminate against any worker. Those who had revolted from the GEFONT in a press release said that the GEFONT does not have any clear plans and aims for the welfare of workers and “the high-level officials of the worker’s body have made it a recruitment centre for their relatives”. However all the workers were not present at the function.

Addressing the function, member of the Department of Central Labour Relations at the GEFONT, Siddhi Upreti, who joined ANTUF said the workers who revolted from now on will carry on their activities under the flag of ANTUF. He claimed that the leadership of GEFONT has been working against the welfare of workers and served their interests by making good relations with the management of the firms.

Those joining ANTUF include Siddhi Upreti member of the Department of Central Labour Relations, Krishna Bahadur Subedi, Yagya Prasad Rijal of Highland Distillery, Madan Giri, Jeev Nath Ghimire of Kathmandu Dairy, Krishna Kumar Pandey and Krishna Kumar Bohara sof Nepal Distillery.
