KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 8
Gen Z youths are staging a large protest at Maitighar Mandala today against corruption, government mismanagement, and the decision to shut down social media.
Students, many in school and college uniforms, began gathering from 9 a.m. carrying flags and placards with slogans such as "Independent voice is our right" and "Where has the taxpayers' money gone?" The demonstration formally kicked off at 11 a.m. with chants, patriotic songs, and peaceful marches.
Organizers have stressed the protest will remain peaceful and non-political, warning party leaders and cadres not to exploit it. Police have deployed additional security around Maitighar citing concerns of infiltration.
Protests have also been reported outside the Valley, including in Pokhara, Rupandehi and Dang.
This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
