Government to celebrate Yoga Day with various programmes tomorrow

Kathmandu, June 19

The government has made preparations to mark June 21 as ‘Yoga Day’ this year. A Cabinet meeting held on June 8 had decided to conduct various programmes at national level to celebrate Yoga Day.

The Ministry of Education, which is coordinating the events to be held on the day, has formed a 201-member committee to make preparations to mark Yoga Day with various programmes.

According to Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education Dr Hari Lamsal, participants of the programme will perform yoga in the presence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Lamsal said education minister is the coordinator and tourism minister is the joint-coordinator of the programme.

He said various programmes will be organised in coordination with chief district officers and various organisations across the country to mark the day.

Similarly, in Kathmandu, the education ministry has requested leaders from political parties, lawmakers, chiefs and members of constitutional bodies, representatives of diplomatic missions and others to join the programme on Tuesday to celebrate the day.

Educational institutions have also been asked to conduct a 30-minute yoga practice programme on their premises.
