Govt alerted against violation of child rights during polls

KATHMANDU: Youth campaigners representing various organisations have drawn the attention of the government to the possible violation of child rights during the time of the local level elections.

A team of youth representing the recently launched #YOUthVoteNepal campaign reached the office of the Central Child Welfare Board (CCWB) in Pulchok on Monday and submitted a memorandum to its Executive Director Tarak Dhital regarding the issue.

In the memorandum, they requested Dhital to ensure that children would not be used in election campaigns by parties and the parties would give due respect to rights of children.

They also requested the CCWB to inform and educate children across the nation about elections.

In response, Dhital informed the visiting delegation to address their concerns and assured them of making efforts for the same.

#YOUthVoteNepal campaign started to make the youth aware of election-related issues, youth leadership and address the queries related to children, youth and women, the campaigners said in a statement today.
