Govt committed to end VAW and child marriage

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare CP Mainali stated that the government is committed towards ending violence against women and child marriage.

At an interaction organised by the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare (MoWCS) in the Capital today, DPM Mainali shared that the government has formulated plans and programmes to end various sorts of VAW such as domestic violence, rape and kidnapping among others.

“As for reducing child marriage in the country, the government is gearing up to bring a national strategy,” said DPM.

Also, speaking at the programme, Ranju Kumari Jha, Chairperson of the Women, Children and Elderly and Social Welfare Committee of the Legislature-Parliament argued that everyone has an equally important role to play in ending VAW.

Madhu Prasad Regmi, Secretary of MoWCS seconded the opinion stating that apart from women striving for the security and welfare of women, men also play an important role.

On the occasion, DPM Mainali handed over the certificates to Goodwill Ambassadors for the campaign, actor Rajesh Hamal, Captain of Nepali National Cricket Team Paras Khadka and President of Non- Resident Nepalis Association Shesh Ghale for their contributions.
