KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 21
The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has formed a task force to investigate the artificial scarcity of airline tickets and the resulting inflated prices.
The task force, headed by Joint Secretary Indu Ghimire, includes representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
According to Joint Secretary and Ministry Spokesperson Ram Krishna Lamichhane, the task force has been instructed to conduct a comprehensive study on ticket sales, passenger purchases, and instances of black-market practices.
It is required to submit a report promptly, along with recommendations for addressing the issue. The ministry will take appropriate measures based on these suggestions.
Following public complaints about soaring airfares, Tourism Minister Badri Prasad Pandey on Wednesday directed airlines operating international flights to submit their airfare rates within 24 hours.
In response to the directive, 11 international airlines operating flights to and from Nepal have provided details on ticket prices, availability, and passenger data, the ministry reported.
