KATHMANDU, APRIL 8
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has extended an invitation to representatives of the Nepal Teachers' Federation for talks scheduled to take place at the Ministry on Wednesday.
In a press statement issued today, Ministry Spokesperson and Joint Secretary Shiva Kumar Sapkota urged the Federation to engage in dialogue representing all protesting school teachers and staff. The statement added that the exact timing of the meeting would be determined through mutual consultation.
Teachers across the country, under the call of the Nepal Teachers' Federation, have been staging street protests, demanding that the proposed Bill to Amend and Integrate the School Education Laws, 2080, be enacted into law without further delay.
Previously, the Ministry had invited the protesting teachers for consultations on April 3 and 4 in an effort to build consensus. However, the talks did not materialize as the teachers failed to respond to the invitation.
