Govt to meet transporters’ demands

Kathmandu, August 3:

The Ministry of Labour and Transport Management (MoLTM) today assured transporters’ unions that their demands would be met at the earliest.

The Nepal Independent Transport Workers’ Organisation, Nepal Transport Workers Association and Nepal Transport Workers Forum have been organising protest programmes to mount pressure on the government to fulfill several demands. One of their demands include making it mandatory to the employers to provide appointment letters to transport employees.

The government has said that it would work to ensure that the employees are provided with appointment letters. It has plans to hold meetings with authorities concerned on August 11.

The ministry has also agreed to lower the fees for obtaining driving licenses, which was increased by as much as 400 per cent.

A statement issued by the spokesperson of the ministry, Dhruba Kumar Sharma, said the transport are withdrawing their protests.
