Govt, YCL raze illegal structures on Ring Road
Kathmandu, May 23:
The government, with the help of the Young Communist League (YCL) — the youth-wing of the Maoists — has razed some 550 temporary huts and 15 illegal houses built on the sides of the Ring Road.
According to the YCL’s valley coordinator, Sagar, all structures built on encroached land on either sides of the road will be cleared within the next two days. He added that around 15 more buildings will be demolished within the next two days.
The Department of Roads (DoR), Kathmandu Valley Town Development Committee and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) are jointly working to clear the structures constructed illegally.
The work to pull down the structures had begun from Balkumari in Lalitpur last Friday. “We reached Gongabu today and would reach Kalanki tomorrow,” Sagar said.
Engineer Sunil Poudyal of the DoR said the work to remove such illegal structures was regular, but the DoR was not able to do so in the last few years given the political disturbances.
He said the government will use minimum force to demolish the structures.
