Guest makes off with cash, gold

Kathmandu, October 7

Police have arrested a woman who made off with cash and gold jewelleries worth around Rs 200,000 from a house in Katunje, Bhaktapur, where she had been staying as a guest for two days.

According to the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Hima Bhujel aka Laxmi Dhamala, 27, of Sasapur, Sarlahi, currently living in Bafal, Kathmandu, was arrested from the capital yesterday after Dhan Maya Khadka lodged an FIR against her. “Bhujel stayed at Khadka’s house for a couple of days as a guest and made off with cash and valuables when the house owner was away for her day’s work,” an official said.

Police have recovered four items of gold ornament and two cheque books from Bhujel’s possession which the official said were stolen from Khadka’s house. Bhujel was handed over to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Jagati, Bhaktapur.

Meanwhile, property worth around Rs 150,000 was stolen from a rented room in Imadole of Mahalaxmi Municipality-15, Lalitpur, yesterday. According to a complaint lodged with police, unidentified thieves decamped with Rs 50,000 in cash and various gold ornaments, among other things, from the room of Aulad Singh Lama. The room was unattended when the incident took place, police said.
