H1N1 influenza death toll reaches 10

With the death of a 67-year-old patient in the Capital, this year’s death toll from pandemic influenza A(H1N1)pdm 09 has reached 10 according to Dr Guna Nidhi Sharma, section chief for epidemiology at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, Teku.

The patient died in the Grande International Hospital, Dhapasi. The cause of the death was confirmed by the Central Diagnostic Laboratory and Research Centre and the report of death was sent to EDCD by the hospital.

Ten people died of influenza A(H1N1)pdm 09 this year — two from Jhapa, one each from Lalitpur, Syangja, Palpa, Rupandehi, Kathmandu and three from Pokhara.

A total of 354 patients have tested positive for pandemic influenza A(H1N1)pdm 09 since January, 2017 till August 7.
