In a writ petition filed at the Supreme Court demanding that membership of 14 UML lawmakers be revoked, the SC has fixed the next date for the hearing tomorrow.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota on Sunday decided that there was no need to take any action on the letter written by the CPN-UML seeking expulsion of 14 UML lawmakers belonging to Madhav Kumar Nepal-Jhalanath Khanal faction.

'Action against expelled UML lawmakers not necessary'

Hearing of the case has been set for tomorrow as the hearing did not conclude today in the division bench of justices Dipak Kumar Karki and Kumar Chudal.

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli had lodged the petition naming 14 parliamentarians recommended for action from the party, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, Election Commission of Nepal and Speaker of Lumbini Province Purna Gharti as the defendants. Earlier, the SC had sought the Election Commission's written response within 15 days on whether the registration process of the CPN-Unified Socialist was in line with due processes.

On behalf of UML Chairman Oli Sumitra Pandey had lodged three separate cases against Speaker Sapkota, Election Commission and Lumibini Province Speaker Gharti on September 1. The petitioner has demanded that mandamus order be issued to implement the party's decision in regard to the action taken against 14 UML HoR members.
