Kathmandu, July 7:

The Patan Appellate Court, in a ruling issued recently, said it will conduct a hearing on an appeal filed by alleged international serial killer, Charles Gurumukh Sobhraj, on July 14, Sobhraj’s lawyer, Rajaram Dhakal, said. In the appeal, Sobhraj has challenged the verdict issued by the Kathmandu District Court (KDC), which had slapped a life-term on him for the murder of an American National, Connie Jo Bronzich, in 1975. The Embassy of France in Nepal had recently asked the government to speed up the trial against Sobhraj. Though the prosecutors have charged Sobhraj with murdering Bronzich, they are confused whether or not to reopen another case, in which he is accused of murdering a Canadian national, Laurent

Armand Carriere, in 1975. The second case, which is under jurisdiction of the Bhaktapur District Court, had been postponed due to lack of evidence. The Bhaktapur court found the relevant file some months ago.
