House postponed till 5 pm, tripartite talks likely today

KATHMANDU: The meeting of Legislature-Parliament scheduled for 3 pm has been put off till 5 pm, according to the Parliament Secretariat.

It has been learned that the House was put off as the government side, the main opposition Nepali Congress and the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front are likely to hold tripartite talks at Singha Durbar this afternoon.

The Reconstruction Authority Bill, which was endorsed by the Legislation Committee of the Parliament yesterday, would be presented before the House today if the House proceedings are not obstructed.

Meanwhile, UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the chairman of high-level political mechanism, has been making efforts to resume the stalled House session.

He held meetings with leaders of various parties, including the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front, today.

Dahal met Nepali Congress Vice-Chairman Ram Chandra Paudel and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa, who is also the chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, and Chairman of Tarai Madhes Democratict Party Mahantha Thakur.

Dahal reached Thakur's residence in Bhaktapur for consultations after meeting Thapa, RSS reported.

Thakur returned to Kathmandu from New Delhi yesterday late evening.
