House panel seeks report on govt's preparations for local polls

KATHMANDU: The Development Committee under the Legislature-Parliament today has directed the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development to submit its progress report on the implementation of Committee's directives made so far within five days.

In today's meeting of the Committee, lawmakers suggested the Ministry to forward post-quake developmental programmes across the country with a high priority.

Minister of State for Local Development Kunti Kumari Shahi and other officials at the Ministry were present at the meeting.

The Committee Chair Rabindra Adhikari directed the Ministry to submit details of preparations of the government regarding the elections of local bodies as the elections could resolve maximum problems seen in the areas of local development.

Likewise, State Minister Shahi said that the Ministry would soon bring out special programmes to simplify programmes of local development as they were important for both service and development.

She added that the government was working out for holding the local bodies' election as it could resolve most of the developmental problems at the local level.

She further assured that the developmental works would be forwarded so as the people could feel the development, but not on the basis of political sharing.

Similarly, the Committee has directed the Ministries of Finance and Local Development to arrange necessary preparations not to let the budget for local development be lapsed in hilly and quake-hit districts.
