House subcommittee to look into medical sector anomalies

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare Committee under the Legislature-Parliament on Wednesday has formed a subcommittee to carry out investigations into various anomalies in the Nepali medical sector.

The decision follows reports of anomalies being seen in admission fees for various medical courses and violation of the standards set by the Nepal Medical Council among others.

The subcommittee comprising lawmakers Jeevan Pariyar, Banshidhar Mishra, Ratna Devi Gurung, Babita Moktan and Anuradha Thapa Magar as members has been asked to carry ou investigations and present a report before the main committee within 15 days.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Gagan Thapa informed that the government was preparing to bring an act related to medical education in order to resolve problems seen in the medical sector.
