HURON’s plea to government
Kathmandu, October 8:
Issuing a press release, the Human Rights Organisation Nepal (HURON) today opposed any initiative by the government and the seven parties to take any step which should be taken through the Constituent Assembly.
The HURON urged the government and the parties not to take any decision that may infringe upon the fundamental rights of the people to decide on any issue of national importance without going to the people.
It also said that the recent postponement of the Constituent Assembly elections had infringed upon the rights of the sovereign people to draft the constitution.
“We are worried that the government is unable to maintain the rule of law and maintain peace and security, which has affected people from exercising fundamental rights,” the statement added.
The organisation also said the people were not able to move freely from one part of the country to the other part due to insecurity.
