KATHMANDU, AUGUST 24

Chair of the proposed CPN (Unified Socialist) party Madhav Kumar Nepal today said he was compelled to split the CPN-UML and open a new party as UML Chair KP Sharma Oli had closed the door for him and his supporters.

He said Oli attempted to block all avenues with the intention of preventing him from opening a new party or exposing his wrong deeds.

Speaking to mediapersons after the Central Committee meeting of his party at Chandragiri Resort today, Nepal said his faction had two options - surrender to Oli or open a revolutionary party. He said his party would be ready for unity or electoral alliance with communist forces after the Election Commission decided to register his party.

The EC has summoned CPN (Unified Socialist) leaders who signed the petition seeking to split the CPN-UML to verify their signatures tomorrow.

Nepal said he had the support of more than 20 per cent members in both the Central Committee and the Parliamentary Party Committee of the UML and that should be enough to split the party.
