KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 20

The Tokha municipality has initiated the removal of structures illegally constructed along the banks of the Bishnumati River.

Temporary structures, unlawfully built along the Bishnumati corridor and its adjacent areas, were evicted this morning to enhance the corridor's beauty and organization.

Sher Bahadur BC, the Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipality, disclosed that the illegal structures encroaching upon public land along the Bishnumati riverbanks were removed using bulldozers.

Tokha municipality took action against the unlawfully constructed structures by establishing a 'Public Land Preservation Committee,' chaired by Dharmendra Shrestha, the chairperson of Tokha municipality-4. Deputy Mayor Murari Tamang stated that the Committee dismantled structures erected in front of the Fluorescent School in Tokha municipality-8 on Tuesday.

The municipality plans to clear structures unlawfully erected along the Bishnumati corridor from Manorath Tirtha to Tokha police post in the initial phase.

Mayor Prakash Adhikari mentioned that over 1,000 ropanis of land in Tokha have been encroached upon, highlighting the municipality's strategy to preserve public land.

However, locals residing along the banks of the Bishnumati river near Fluorescent School obstructed the municipality's efforts to clear the illegal structures and even pelted stones at the police.

Several days ago, the municipality issued a notice urging locals to remove illegal structures erected on public land.
