A street drama on the importance of iodised salt was staged at Basantapur today.

The programme is the part of a tripartite agreement signed between the government of Nepal, the government of India and the Salt Trading Corporation for the control of goitre and iodine deficiency disorders in Nepal. The street drama focused on the importance of iodised salt with characters such as shop keepers, traditional shamans, health workers disseminating the information on iodised salt. At the awareness programme, the Indian ambassador to Nepal, Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, laid stress on the importance of iodised salt to improve the health conditions. He also assured that Indian assistance will continue its support in the form of subsidies under the heads iodisation, packing, transportation and advocacy.
