Queen’s award for Rana
Kathmandu: Greta Rana, who is associated with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), has been awarded the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth as part of the tradition going back to centuries whereby the British Queen awards people around the world for making contributions in their respective fields. “Greta Rana has been awarded the MBE for her contribution in fostering Nepal-Britain relationship,” said a statement issued by S Rana on Monday. Rana is a Briton married to a Nepali. —HNS
Office-bearers elected
KATHMANDU: General gathering of Bishalnagar Library, Kathmandu, on Sunday unanimously re-elected Ganesh Shrestha chairman of the library. Uttam Sharma, Raju Dangol, Sudip Srivastav and Ganesh Bahadur Pande have been elected vice-chairman, secretary, assistant secretary and treasurer respectively of the library. The library will organise different programmes including blood donation, youth information programme, free counseling about reproductive health, monthly interactions on different themes and Handigaun festival in near future, it was informed on the occasion. — RSS
BCA topper honoured
KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister Bharatmohan Adhikari presented medal and letter of appreciation to Parina Shakya, the topper of Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) 2000 batch under the Purbanchal University at a function organised to mark the ninth anniversary of the varsity here on Monday. The toppers of the final semester of BCA 2001 batch Rabin Regmi among the boys and Seeta Thapa among the girls were also honoured with cash prize and medals on the occasion. — RSS
Shyam Tamot awarded
KATHMANDU: People’s singer, musician and lyricist Shyam Tamot was honoured with the Jansanskriti Award here on Monday by the Rastriya Janasanskritik Manch for his contribution to music. He has written or vocalised 120 songs, including the song album Gaun gaun bata utha. — RSS
