Disabled moves SC

KATHMANDU: A Public Interest Litigation was filed on Thursday at the Supreme Court seeking the implementation of Disable Protection and Welfare Act 2032 so as to provide training and job opportunity to the disabled. Babukrishna Maharjan, a blind, filed the petition seeking the apex court order to the government to launch welfare programmes to empower over 3.8 million physically challenged people in the country. The Prime Minister’s Office and the Cabinet, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour and Transportation and Civil Aviation Authority have been made defendants. — HNS

Plan for risk mitigation

BHAKTAPUR: Nepal Red Cross Society central office is to conduct a new programme concerning natural disaster risk mitigation based on schools in Bhaktapur. The programme will be conducted by targeting the students in the areas affected by natural disaster, said Nhuchhe Kumar Twayana here on Wednesday. Students, teachers and thousands of people of nearby communities will benefit from the programme. — RSS

KATHMANDU: Human rights activists have published a joint appeal calling upon the Maoists to safely release chairman of Surkhet-Jumla road construction committee and a resident of Jumla Mahashankar Devkota, 71, and social worker of Kanchanpur district Premsingh Bohara whom they have abducted. — RSS
