KATHMANDU, APRIL 6

Peaceful protests by school teachers continued in the federal capital today, with demonstrators occupying the Babarmahal-Baneshwor route to demand a student- and teacher-friendly School Education Act.

Now in its fifth day, the protest has drawn educators from across the country, who have gathered in the Babarmahal-Baneshwor area to voice their concerns.

Chairperson of the Confederation of Nepal Teachers (CNT), Laxmi Kishore Subedi, stated that the agitation will persist until their demands are acknowledged.

In a press statement issued today, the Confederation urged teachers to refrain from duties such as checking exam papers, publishing results, and participating in educational tours, training programs, or seminars during the protest period.

It may be recalled that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, upon his return from an official visit to Thailand on Saturday, commented on the ongoing protests. Speaking to the media at the VVIP lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the Prime Minister remarked that the peaceful nature of the demonstrations reflected the teachers' "trust in the government."

"They are confident that the government will listen to them. We will engage in dialogue with them. They are not adversaries of the government, nor are we theirs," he said, emphasizing the importance of resolving the issue through discussion.
