House looted

KATHMANDU: A group of armed persons looted cash and property worth Rs 1.5 million on Monday night. According to police, the armed group overpowered all the family members of Gaje Ghale in Samakhusi by brandishing pistols and knives. Ghale is a former British Gorkha officer. Police said that they took away rupees one million and 30 tolas of gold jewellery. — HNS

Fined for false details

KATHMANDU: Bishnu Devi Kuwar Yogi, a resident of Navalparasi Sunbal Ward No 5 working at the post of Mahila Karyakarta at the Agriculture Development Bank, banking office, Navalparasi, had presented false details of passing the high school examination from Secondary Education Council, Uttar Pradesh, India. She presented false details at the time of her appointment and thus resorted to corruption. The Special Court, Kathmandu, has imposed a fine of Rs 2,000, the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has stated. — RSS

Lecturer awarded PhD

KATHMANDU: Lecturer at Bhaktapur Multiple Campus, Padma Raj Lamichhaney, has been awarded PhD by Allahabad University of India. He has been conferred the PhD degree for his thesis on ‘Demographic and socio-economic characteristics in Tharu bonded labourers in Banke district of Nepal’. Born at Lekhanath Municipality in Kaski district in 2011 Bikram Era, Lamichhaney, has been teaching demography and geography for the last 19 years. — RSS

Plea to release cadres

KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal- United Marxist Leninist has expressed grief over the abduction of party worker Ram Krishna Bhomjung of Bageswori village development committe-1 of Nuwakot district and former ward chairman of Sankhuwasava district Tamaphok VDC-6 and party worker Surendra Bahadur Jimi by the Maoists from their respective houses. The party has appealed to the Maoists to set free the cadres at the earliest and not to trouble other workers. — RSS

Protect life, rebels told

KATHMANDU: The Human Rights and Peace Society in a release issued on Tuesday has appealed to the Maoists for the protection of life and unconditional release of abducted director of Far-West Regional Education Directorate Damodar Gauli, his wife Ambika Gauli and driver Ganesh Bhul, Chhabi Lal Adhikari of Arghakhachi, Mitra Prasad Chapagain, Bhaktapur Bahadur Shah and Himal Prasad Koirala who were abducted from Morang. — RSS

Programmes for Dalits

LALITPUR: The Downtrodden, Backward and Dalit Classes Uplift and Development Committee has launched various programmes for Dalits. The panel established on Bhadau 4, 2054 BS has been emphasising on social, economic, educational and political rights of the Dalits to bring them into the national development mainstream by changing their lifestyle. Committee vice-chairman Dhal Bahadur Biswokarma said prizes and certificates have been awarded to Dalit students coming first at the national and regional levels. — RSS
