Stupa renovated

Kirtipur: One of the oldest (degal) stupa in Bhajangal, Kirtipur, has been renovated. It is a sacred place for the Newars of Lalitpur and Kirtipur, where various rituals are performed. Funds for the renovation was collected from the locals. Degal has historical importance as it is the place where Kalu Pandey, a brave Gorkha general, achieved martyrdom during the unification campaign of greater Nepal carried out by King Prithvi Narayan. Previously it was full of cracks and plants grew from within it making it stand in a poor condition. But now the degal has got new life, claimed the locals of Kirtipur. Nepali gets UK PhD

KATHMANDU: University of Birmingham, UK, has awarded PhD to Devendra Gauchan of Nepal Agricultural Research Council for his research work on Agrobiodiversity Conservation in Nepal. — RSS

Quiz contest held

BHAKTAPUR: On the occasion of the 2548th Buddha Jayanti, the Buddhist association and Boudha Samkrit Bihar, Bhaktapur, jointly organised a districtwide inter-school Ratnaman Boudha Quiz Competition on Tuesday. A total of 12 schools from the district are taking part in the competition that will conclude on May 15. — RSS
