Cops foil looting bid
Kathmandu: The police on Monday arrested a member of a gang while he was trying to loot a house in the valley. According to the police, the person is a member of a gang which is involved in various cases of looting across the valley. "We have arrested Ramesh Tamang of Dhuseni Siwalay VDC-6, Kavre district, with a pistol and a kukri," Binod Singh, superintendent of police at the Valley Crime Investigation Branch, Hanumandhoka, said. The police are looking for Suman Tamang of Kulekhani VDC-6, Sindhupalchowk, Arjun Lama of Dhading VDC-9, Prem Tamang of Dandapakher-9, Santosh Lama of Nagarkot, Bhaktapur and Sagar Tamang, among others.” — HNS
First Nepali vet doc dead
Kathmandu: Dr Thir Bahadur Singh (KC), the first veterinary doctor of Nepal, passed away on Saturday night at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. He was born in 1966 BS at Dillibazar, Kathmandu. Late Singh did his matriculation from the University of Calcutta in 1936 AD, bachelors in Veterinary from Bihar Veterinary College, Patna, in 1942 and had taken a veterinary course in Australia. His grandson Keshar Karki said Singh was the first registered veterinary doctor of the country. — HNS
Awareness campaign
Kathmandu: The Maiti Nepal organised a public awareness campaign against girl trafficking in Maneydobhan, Khani Danda, Chhang Chhong Dole and Laamataar, the villages that are located between Kavrepalanchowk and Lalitpur districts.
Corner meetings against girl trafficking were also organised during the campaign on Saturday. The campaigners also put together dances, songs, cultural programmes and street dramas for the villagers. — HNS
