Peace pillar foundation

KATHMANDU: Foundation stone for a child memorial and an all-religion peace pillar was laid inside the Children Memorial Park, near the Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday. "The pillar, expected to cost Rs 10 million, is to be completed by April," World Peace Dissemination Committee confirmed. "Names of 767 children who lost their lives during the conflict will figure on the pillar," the committee reported. Sharad Singh Bhandari, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, laid down the foundation stone amidst the function. Speaking at the function, the minister said the pillar would depict Nepalis' respect for all religions. Dr Mina Singh and singer Ani Chhoing Dolma have urged all to chip in for the construction. — RSS

New postage stamps

KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communications on Monday affixed cancellation marks on four commemorative stamps depicting Tribhuvan University, Auditor General's Office, Nepal Family Planning Association and the World Heritage Site Lumbini. Three stamps commemorate Golden Jubilee of the institutions while the last one is on Lumbini. The stamps designed by Mohan Narsingh Rana have been priced at Rs 5, Rs 8 and Rs 10. — RSS.
