CA members detaine

KATHMANDU: Police today briefly detained at least 51 demonstrators and nine UCPN-Maoist CA members for carrying out a protest violating the no-gone-zone in front of Singha Durbar. They were demanding ‘civilian supremacy’ and withdrawal of the President’s move to retain then Chief of Army. Police made the arrests in front of the southern gate at 9:45 am and later released them, SP Nawa Raj Silwal, in-charge of the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, confirmed. — HNS

Gachhedar’s party

KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court, seeking nullification of Election Commission’s decision that registered Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhedar-led Madheshi Janadhikar Forum (MJF). The petition has demanded to scrap the decision taken by the EC on July 31 that had registered Gachhedar’s party and also granted electroal symbol. The EC’s decision was biased and illegal, Upendra Yadav-led MJF accused in the writ. — HNS
