Basanta Shrawan
KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Saturday went to Hanuman Dhoka Nasal Chowk to attend the Basanta Shrawan function organised to mark Basanta Panchami, the first day of the spring season as well as the festival of the Hindu goddess of learning Saraswati. Dr Yadav received tika and prasad from the priests. Vice-president Parmanda Jha, PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri also attended the function. Vice-chairperson of the Constituent Assembly, CA members, top government officials and high-ranking security officials were also present. On the occasion, Nepal Army personnel saluted the President. This is the first time that the President attended the Basanta Shrawan function after assuming the office as the head of the state. — RSS
Threat to scribe flayed
KATHMANDU: Reporters’ Club Nepal on Saturday condemned the death threat to Rajesh Prasad Barma, Siraha correspondent of The Himalayan Times, by an unidentified person. Issuing a press statement here, club president Rishi Dhamala said the club would send a delegation to different parts of the Tarai to study the situation of journalists working there. Dhamala also deplored a recent police intervention in Tarai TV. — HNS

KATHMANDU: A new internet search engine has been launched in the United States on the initiative of Nepali information technology experts Govinda Giri and Shiva Dhakal. Giri said the search engine — sagoon.com — is user-friendly and it aims at providing quality service to the users. — RSS
