Hashish haul: 1 held
KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday arrested Jit Bahadur Syangtan, 35, of Dhading , with 201 kg of hashish from Kathmandu’s Bandbhanjyang VDC. Syangtan was made public along with the seized hashish on Friday. Chief of the Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit, SP Kuber Singh Rana, said, “Acting on a tip-off, a police team nabbed Syangtan while he was trying to sell the drug.” — HNS
Writ against VP
KATHMANDU: Advocate Balkrishna Neupane filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on Friday, demanding that the apex court order Vice-President Paramananda Jha to take a fresh oath of office and secrecy as per Interim Constitution of Nepal 2007. Neupane demanded that the court annul oath taken by Jha in Hindi. — HNS
Physics exhibition
KIRTIPUR: Students studying physics at the central department in Tribhuvan University are organising an exhibition at the department. The exhibition showcases different aspects of physics. Organisers said they were planning to extend the duration of the expo for a few more days. — RSS
Food crisis ruled out
Kathmandu: The global food crisis will not affect Nepal, secretary at the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry Tek Bahadur Thapa on Friday. Addressing a programme organised by Nepal Agriculture Engineers’ Association, Thapa said Nepal is self-reliant in food. According to him, 8.07 million metric tons of food was produced in the country last year. — RSS
Waste treatment
Bhaktapur: The Nagarkot Naldum Tourism Development Committee started converting the waste produced there into compost to manage the garbage in the area. Waste produced from hotels will be converted into compost and sold to local farmers at affordable price, it said. — RSS
