Lalitpur schools shut

Lalitpur: All schools up to higher secondary level in Lalitpur district on Wednesday remained closed on the call of Nepal Education Republic Forum. Surprised at the unexpected shutdown, students and parents returned home after waiting for school buses for hours at several bus stops. Bijaya Baniya, president of Lalitpur district of the NREF, said they took the decision to protest the police action of unlocking the Lalitpur District Education Office on Tuesday. “We decided to request schools not to run classes today,” said Bijaya Baniya, president of Lalitpur district of the NREF. He said schools will run as usual from tomorrow. NERF president Nirendra Kunwar said the schools were automatically shut as the teachers went to participate in a sit-in at the District Education Office. The NREF padlocked the DEOs indefinitely across the country on Tuesday, saying the agreements reached with the government about 10 month ago have not been implemented. — HNS
