Judges sworn in

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri on Friday administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed Supreme Court Justices Tahir Ali Ansari and Rajendra Prasad Koirala. The duo were appointed as the permanent justices of the apex court after the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee approved their names. — HNS

Taxi fares hiked

KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management on Friday increased current taxi fares. According to a release issued by the Department on Friday, the flag down charge (initial charge) is fixed at Rs 8, while per kilometre is Rs 20.5 and Rs 4.1 for each 200 meter. Oath administered

KATHMANDU: Speaker of Parliament, Subas Nembang on Friday administered the oath to parliamentarians from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Rasnarayan Choudhari, Narendra Kumar Choudhari and Abhishek Pratap Shah. Nembang also administered oath to parliamentarian from CPN (UML) Rabindra Baitha. — RSS

2 ‘extortionists’ held

KATHMANDU: A police team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Hanumandhoka, on Thursday arrested Madhav JC, 23, and Bimal Thapaliya, 22, on charge

of threatening Marwaris and extorting money from them. SSP Upendra Kanta Aryal at the MPCD said JC and Thapaliya of Nuwakot extorted cash Rs 605,000 from eight Marwaris, changing their real names. The police also seized cash Rs 100,000 from them. — HNS

RPP to hold rallies

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided to organise rallies across the country to pile pressure on the government to ensure fear-free environment for the Constituent Assembly polls. Issuing a press release after its meeting held at Chabahil on Friday, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party said that it has decided to hold rallies in Mahendranagar on January 21, Nepalgunj on January 23 and Rupandehi on January 26. — HNS
