Govt’s plan
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Women Children and Social Welfare is to set up three rehabilitation centres for trafficking survivors in Kathmandu, Kailali and Sindhupalchowk under Human Trade and Trafficking Control Act 2004. Ritu Raj Bhandari, official at the ministry said that the centres, with the capacity to accommodate 20 inmates at a time, would be run by the non-government organisations working in this sector and the government will provide financial support for it. The centres’ focus would be on providing a temporary shelter, providing skill enhancement trainings and counselling for the trafficking survivors,” Bhandari said. The centre will have the capacity to accommodate 20 people at one time. — HNS
Civic body formed
KATHMANDU: Members of civil society formed on Thursday formed Civil Society for Education (CSE), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) to work in the field of education sector, a press statement by the CSE said on Thursday. The CSE aims to pressurise the authorities concerned for improvement and implementation of existing education policies through wide discussion, the statement said. Kedar Bhakta Mathama is the president, Prof Dr Tirtha Parajuli vice president and Rajan Sharma is the secretary of the NGO. — HNS
FM leaves for India
KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan left for India on Thursday to take part in the SAARC Ministerial Meeting. The meeting begins in New Delhi on Friday. The meeting will focus on SAARC Development Fund, which will have three components. India has pledged $300 million and Nepal is to contribute $35 million to the SDF. This assessment is confined to poverty alleviation under social window. Regional and interregional resources will be mobilised for conomic and infrastructure components. — RSS
