NC veep’s warning

MADHYAPUR THIMI: Nepali Congress (NC) vice-president Prakash Man Singh has said that the country will land in a grave crisis if the CA polls are not held on time. He was speaking at a tea reception and greetings exchange programme organised in Tigani of Madhyapur Thimi by the NC Madhyapur Thimi -3 ward committee to mark the new year of Nepal Sambat 1128. Commenting on rumours relating to the change of government, he said a two-thirds majority is required to install a new government. He also accused the Maoists of creating an illusion by calling the special session of parliament. He also said the NC had called for stoppage of murder, abduction, looting, donation and terror by the Maoists and protection from the government. NC MP Lekhnath Neupaney said the Maoists killed the journalists when they wrote the truth. — RSS

NHRC to stay open

LALITPUR: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is to remain open during Tihar holidays. Protection officer at the NHRC, Sriram Adhikari, said it was decided to open the NHRC during Tihar so that complaints on the incidents of violation of human rights can be entertained and immediate inspections carried out. The NHRC will remain open from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm during the holidays. The central office of the NHRC at Pulchok of Lalitpur and offices in Biratnagar, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi will remain open, Adhikari said. — RSS

PM’s message

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has offered hearty greetings to all brothers and sisters on the occasion of the new year of Nepal Sambat-1128. In a message, Koirala said Bagmati civilisation is regarded as the era of revival of language, literature, art and culture of Nepal. Nepal Sambat is the living heritage of history, civilsation and culture of the same era, the prime minister said in the message. — RSS

Books for TU library

KATHMANDU: The South Asian Foundation has provided 250 books on different subjects to Tribhuvan University, Central Library. Director of the foundation Dr Reeta Thapa handed over the books to rector Dr Surya Lal Amatya on Thursday. Director Thapa expressed happiness for being able to help the university, while rector Dr Amatya expressed gratitude for the cooperation. — RSS
