PSC’s 57th anniv

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Friday participated in a tea party here to mark the 57th anniversary of the Public Service Commission (PSC). While PM Koirala released a book titled Issues on Public Service Commission, Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel released a book Badhuwa Ujuri Sambandhi Nirnaya Sar Sangraha, both published by the PSC. Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokharel, election commissioners and high-level government officials also attended. — HNS

Strike put off

KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) on Friday suspended its protest programmes that were to begin from Friday, and warned of strong protests if its demands were not met in a week’s time. However, the FNNTE has said it would continue with its symbolic protest by driving vehicles displaying black flags for a week. — HNS

Teachers’ meet begins

KATHMANDU: The Second National Council of Teachers’ Union Nepal (TUN) began on Friday. The TUN is an umbrella organisation of five teachers organisation-Nepal Teachers’ Association, Nepal National Teachers Organisation, Teachers Council, Nepal National Teachers Forum and Nepal Revolutionary Teachers Organisation. The organisers said about 200 participants including representatives and observers are attending the meeting, which will conclude on June 17. — HNS

FNJ memo to Pak prez

KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) on Friday handed over a memorandum to the Pakistani Embassy to be sent to Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf. The memorandum was handed over to the Pakistani Embassy in Nepal as per the world wide programme of ‘International Day of Action’, to protest denial of press freedom in Pakistan, an FNJ press statement said. — HNS

UNMIN’s meeting

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and a five-member team of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) led by Raphael Lopez Pintor on Friday held talks at the UML party office at Balkhu. They discussed on effective implementation of the peace accord, preparations for the Constituent Assembly elections, election observance, sustainable peace, legal arrangements, and management of the Maoist fighters, the UML said. — RSS
