SSP given retirement letter
KATHMANDU: The Police Headquarters on Wednesday handed out retirement letter to SSP Basanta Kunwar. His tenure ended on Tuesday. SSP Kunwar got compulsory retirement as per police regulations. According to the police regulations, an SSP cannot remain in the post for more than six years. Kunwar was given the retirement letter, as he could not get promotion. — HNS
Motorcyclist killed in Bhaktapur
BHAKTAPUR: A motorcyclist was killed on the spot when a truck hit his motorcycle near Amar Hall at Dadhikot VDC-9 in Bhaktapur on Wednesday morning. The dead is identified as Suman Shrestha, 17, of Dadhikot-6, police said. Pillion rider Shyam Sundar Shrestha was injured in the accident. He is undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital, police said. Police has taken the truck driver, Dan Bahadur Malla, under control. Suman’s body has been taken to Bhaktapur Hospital for the post-mortem. — RSS
Oath administered
KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel on Wednesday administered the oath of office to two members of the Judicial Council, Motikaji Sthapit and Basudev Dhungana. PM Koirala had appointed Sthapit and Chief Justice Paudel, who is the chairman of the JC, appointed Dhungana as the members of the Judicial Council on Tuesday. — HNS
PU officials’ appointment sought
KATHMANDU: The Nepal University Teachers’ Association (NUTA) on Wednesday supported the demand of the Pokhara University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) to appoint varsity officials at the earliest. In a press statement, NUTA appealed to the authorities concerned to appoint PU officials as per a democratic process. — HNS
Acting MoD secretary to retire
KATHMANDU: Acting secretary of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Kashi Nath Sharma, is retiring on Thursday. The MoD will have no secretary after Sharma’s retirement, as Defence Secretary Bishnu Dutta Upreti is currently in the United States. — HNS
Book launched
KATHMANDU: American Centre launched a Nepali translation of ‘Communism: A History’, a book by Prof Richard Pipes here on Wednesday. The book was translated by H Upadhyay, a university teacher of English literature in Kathmandu. — HNS
