Six scale Dhaulagiri
KATHMANDU: Six members of the Dhaulagiri-I Expedition-2007 scaled the 8167 m high Mt Dhaulagiri from north east ridge on different dates. According to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Uwemicha Johannes Goltz, Giampaolo Casarotto, Crisina Castagna, Josep Noguera Pous and Roger Sellent Criera scaled it on April 29 and Richard Brill on May 1. — HNS
Dhakal quizzed again
KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday interrogated, for the third time, former minister of the king Gyanendra-led cabinet, Tanka Dhakal, on the allegation of misuse of state treasury. A report prepared by former Supreme Court Justice Krishna Jung Rayamajhi had accused Dhakal of misusing the state treasury to suppress people during the Jana Andolan-II. — HNS
11 arrested in Valley
KATHMANDU: A police team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Saturday arrested 11 persons from Manamaiju on charge of being involved in a number of looting cases in the Valley. The police said those arrested are Roj Bahadur Tamang, Kamchhaman Bamjan, Maila Lama, Samim KC, Jay Bahadur Tamang, Sunjib Tamang, Tule Tamang, Padam Bahadur Tamang, Surya Bahadur Tamang, Kumar Tamang and Kumar Babu Tamang. — HNS
NRB gov stopped
KATHMANDU: The Home Ministry has barred Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai from visiting foreign countries. The authorities issued him a letter on Monday barring his visit to Dhaka where he was scheduled to attend the meeting of governors of the SAARC nations on Tuesday. He was stopped from going abroad at the request of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse and Authority. The CIAA has interrogated him twice in the past. The CIAA also urged the government to bar Lok Man Singh Karki, Chief Secretary during the King’s direct rule, from leaving the country. — RSS
