UN team meets IGP

KATHMANDU: Two members of the International Narcotic Control Board of the UN — second vice-chairman Professor Dr Atsoy and narcotic control officer Saoul Takahasi — met Inspector General of Police, Om Bikram Rana, at the Police Headquarters on Sunday. During the meeting, discussions were held on illegal drug trade and exchange of mutual cooperation for controlling drug trade. — RSS

Protest against college

BHAKTAPUR: Shree Ganesh Youth Club, local organisations and political party representatives staged a sit-in at the Kathmandu Medical College at Duwakot in Bhaktapur, demanding that the college provide education, health and employment opportunities to the locals. They demanded that the college provide 75 per cent concession in the treatment of locals, have 40 per cent local employees and provide free study quota for three doctors and five nurses each year. Club’s advisor Binod Khatri said if the locals’ demands were not addressed duly, they would lock out the college from Tuesday. — RSS

Science meet

LALITPUR: A two-day training on genomic organised jointly by the National Academy for Science and Technology and Asia Pacific International Molecular Biology Network began here on Monday. About 70 experts from Nepal, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan are taking part in the seminar. At the seminar, National Planning Commission member Ramakanta Gaura said that the government is eager to introduce genomic in Nepal as it is the high technology in the sector of science and technology. Network Founder Chairman Prof Dr Ken Ioki Arai informed that the seminar is organised to work together with Nepal in the sector of genomic. — RSS
