NHRC fellowship
KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has awarded Human Rights Fellowship to journalists Govinda Pariyar, Sahishnu Poudel, Madhav Dhungel, Thakur Singh Tharu, Krishna Pokhrel and Dambar Singh Rai for their contribution to the human rights sector, the NHRC said on Wednesday. The selected journalists will be sent to different parts of the country. They will prepare reports on human rights and submit them to the NHRC. — HNS
Guthi elects new body
KATHMANDU: The annual general convention of Bhintuna Guthi has elected a new executive committee. The recently-held convention elected Puroshottam Tuladhar, Upendra Kaji Shakya, Bidhya Sagar Tuladhar, Tara Bir Singh Tuladhar and Diwakar Dhaubadel chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer and director of the Guthi, respectively. Tuladhar and Sushil Kaji Tuladhar were nominated Guthi members, the Guthi said in a press statement on Wednesday. Bhintuna Guthi has been involved in the promotion of cultural and religious traditions for the past nine years. — HNS
Police action flayed
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Terai Engineers’ Society has condemned police manhandling of demonstrators at the Maiti Ghar Mandala on Tuesday. The Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum had organised the demonstration. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the society has demanded immediate release of the demonstrators and compensation for them. The society has expressed solidarity with peaceful demonstrations staged for the uplift of Madhesh and the Madhesis. — HNS
Robberies in Jorpati
KATHMANDU: A group of six armed persons looted property worth around Rs 6 lakh — Rs 5 lakh in cash and 10 tolas of gold jewellery — from Pinki Bread factory at Jorpati-3, Kathmandu, on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.
