Hashish haul :

KATHMANDU: A police team from the Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit (NDCLEU), New Baneshwor, on Sunday seized 11.2 kg of hashish from one Prem Bahadur Thapa Magar of Gongabu at Thamel. According to the NDCLEU, cops seized the hashish from him when the team searched his body while he was walking suspiciously at Thamel. Magar, 38, had concealed the narcotics inside two wooden boxes. Thapa Magar hails from Gangabu. — HNS

Bid to revamp NID :

Kathmandu: Acting chief of the National Investigation Department (NID), Dhan Singh Karki, told the Parliamentary State Affairs Committee on Monday that reforms are underway to turn the state-run spying agency into a spying agency of international standard. Briefing the committee on security-related issues, Karki and Home secretary Umesh Mainali claimed that the security situation in the country has improved. MPs, however, accused the Home Ministry and the NID of being unable to control criminal activities. —HNS
