Regional workshop
KATHMANDU: A two-day South Asian workshop on 'Linking research with policy: Issues and innovations in South Asia" will kick off in Kathmandu on Wednesday. More than 50 participants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal are participating in the workshop. Hemanta Ojha of the Forest Action-Nepal said, "The main objective of the workshop is to find solutions to bridge the gap between research and policy." Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission Dr Yuwaraj Khatiwada will inaugurate the programme at Hotel Everest, Kathmandu. — HNS
Task force for versity setup
KATHMANDU: University Grant Commission on Wednesday formed a five-member task force to do a feasibility study for the establishment of a university in Nepalgunj, Banke. Issuing a press release in the Capital, the UGC said the team comprised Prof Pramod Kumar Jha as coordinator, Prof Siddhibir Karmyacharya, Netra Dhital and Rajan Pokharel as its members and Dinesh Mani Ghimire as the member secretary. The statement added that the team would submit its report to the UGC within 45 days. — HNS
Tibet pics on display
KATHMANDU: A five-day photo exhibition on Tibet was inaugurated by Minister for Information and Communications Shanker Pokhrel in the City Hall in Kathmandu on Wednesday. The exhibition entitled "Tibet of China: Past and Present" was organised by the Chinese embassy and the World Cultural Net-Nepal. The exhibition features four parts -- The History of Tibet, Feudal Serfdom in Old Tibet, Beautiful and Richly Endowed Tibet and the New Tibet. More than 200 photos are on display. The exhibition will end on August 9. — HNS
