Dornier acquired

KATHMANDU:

The Gorkha Airlines’ newly-acquired Dornier 228 aircraft landed at the Tribhuvan International airport at 4.45 on Friday. The airlines, with its German eighteen-seater Dornier, is expected to begin its scheduled flights to different parts of the country within three days. “We will soon begin our operations to Lukla, Jomsom, Pokhara, Bharatpur, Tumlingtar, Janakpur from Kathmandu as the base after three days,” said Thakur Lamichhane, sales and marketing manager of the airlines. — HNS

Mha puja observed

KATHMANDU:

Mha puja, an important ceremony of Newars of Nepals, was performed at the Royal Nepalese Embassy in Moscow on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1126 on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Nepal’s ambassador to Russia, Hiranya Lal Shrestha, said that the Nepal Sambat is not just a Sambat of only the Newars of Nepal but also a public festival of all the Nepalis. Vice-chairman of the Russia-CIS Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dr Krishna Prasad Rijal, spoke at length on the important role of the Newar community in Nepali culture. NRN, International Coordination Committee, Russia, Representative Jiwa Lamichhane and Central General Secretary of the International Nepali Literary Society, and Editor of Multilingual Internet Free Nepal Dr Madhu Madhurya also expressed their views. During the programme, ambassador Shrestha also released a Russian version of the Newari drama “Kumari Chandeswori”. The play has been translated into the Russian language by Krishna Prasad Shrestha. — RSS
